NessCampbell Crane + Rigging’s new Grove GMK6450-1 excels in tilt-up panel lift project

  • The 500-USt Grove, the first in North America, successfully lifted and placed heavy concrete panels during a week-long project in Washington state.
  • NessCampbell’s team skillfully operated the crane in challenging weather and on uneven terrain.

NessCampbell Crane + Rigging showcased the remarkable capabilities of its new 500-USt Grove GMK6450-1 all-terrain crane during a tilt-up panel lift project with DKS Commercial Concrete Construction in Marysville, Washington. The large logistics warehouse project required careful lifting and positioning of heavy concrete panels, highlighting the crane’s strength and dependability.

The week-long operation faced challenges from rainy weather and saturated ground, common in the Pacific Northwest. NessCampbell’s team addressed these conditions by carefully monitoring soil stability daily to ensure a secure base for the crane’s operation.

“Rainy weather and soft ground are part of the landscape here in the Pacific Northwest, but we take pride in overcoming these conditions,” said Ralph Esary, Vice President North Divison, NessCampbell Crane + Rigging. “The Grove GMK6450-1 enabled us to deliver precision and stability, even under less-than-ideal circumstances.”

The GMK6450-1’s exceptional lifting capacity and maneuverability allowed for the secure and efficient placement of multiple multi-ton concrete panels, even within the site’s tight spatial constraints. The tasks were completed on schedule, highlighting the team’s technical expertise and coordination.

“The Grove GMK6450-1 was pivotal in achieving precise panel alignment,” Esary said. “Its flexibility and power turned challenges into opportunities to showcase our expertise with this kind of work.”

This project reflects NessCampbell’s commitment to providing modern, reliable lifting solutions tailored to the demands of the Pacific Northwest.

The six-axle Grove GMK6450-1 all-terrain crane features Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS) and MegaWingLift™, a self-rigging attachment that increases the crane’s lifting capacity. The crane’s versatility makes it ideal for supporting varied projects like bridge construction, road infrastructure, and wind turbine installation.

Delivered to NessCampbell in late 2024, the GMK6450-1 is the first Grove crane of its kind in North America. It underwent thorough inspection and onboarding at Western Pacific Crane & Equipment's Arlington, Washington, facility. Manitowoc factory technicians provided comprehensive training to NessCampbell’s operators and mechanics on the crane’s advanced features before it went to its first job.

NessCampbell Crane + Rigging is a leading provider of crane rental, heavy rigging, and specialized transportation services in the Pacific Northwest. Equipped with a modern fleet and a team of experienced professionals, the company delivers tailored solutions for construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects.
