Hong Kong rental company orders 30 new Manitowoc cranes
Thirty new Manitowoc crawler cranes were ordered by Tower Mark a construction equipment sales and rental company and are headed to Hong Kong. The cranes a combination of Manitowoc 8500-1 11000-1 and 12000-1 crawler cranes will work on civil and residential projects across the region. Deliveries will be spread over the course of 2013.

Tower Mark’s fleet is dispersed through Hong Kong working on various construction projects which often include rail and bridge building jobs. Typically cranes spend four to six months on a site.
One of the company’s new Manitowoc 8500-1 crawlers is working for contracting joint venture Leighton Gammon JV on a high-speed rail terminus for trains traveling to China. Elsewhere an 11000-1 crawler crane is working for Bachy Soletanche to help build a train station as part of the Shatin to Central Rail Link project.
“The new Manitowoc 11000-1 is wonderfully compact making it ideal for work on Hong Kong’s crowded and congested jobsites ” said Bruna Launay senior superintendent with Bachy Soletanche. “We are impressed with the excellent design of the crane.”
The new cranes will significantly enhance Tower Mark’s fleet to over 100 cranes. Tower Mark prefers to focus on one type of crane for its fleet and has given emphasis to crawler cranes. Simpson explained that by concentrating on one type of crane knowledge and understanding of that product is better within the company. Crawler cranes are also popular with the company for their ease of lifting once rigged with no outrigger required for individual lifts and excellent pick and carry duties as standard. All of the cranes are regularly maintained by Tower Mark to ensure their longevity.
Manitowoc’s 8500-1 crawler has an 80 t capacity while the 11000-1 crawler has a 100 t capacity; both cranes support a 61 m heavy-lift boom. The 12000-1 has a 100 t capacity and 71 m boom.
In addition to the 30 crawler crane order Tower Mark also ordered two 45 t capacity Grove RT600E rough-terrain cranes.
