Grove GMK6300L needed in Hong Kong for high-rise work

Rental company Kanson Crane & Heavy Transport purchased Hong Kong’s first Grove GMK6300L all-terrain crane to help with tower crane assembly and highrise construction jobs. Following its launch the crane is extremely popular globally with units working on four continents.

Started by Nelson C.K. Kan in 1994 Kanson Crane’s fleet has grown to 50 cranes with capacities ranging from 250 t to 500 t. Kan explained that the GMK6300L allows the company to take on a wide variety of work.

“After extensive research and comparison of cranes available in the market our team chose the GMK6300L as the most suitable crane to fill the gap in our product portfolio ” Kan said. “The Grove GMK6300L has a long boom perfect for tower crane erection. We also have considerable work to do on highrise structures as well as replacement of old buildings in Hong Kong. The 6300L will be the ideal solution for all these applications.”

The Grove GMK6300L’s 300 t capacity demonstrates some of the strongest lifting abilities of any six-axle crane. The crane’s seven-section 80 m boom is the longest in its class designed for strong lifts without the need to rig the jib.

Built at Manitowoc’s facility in Wilhelmshaven northern Germany the GMK6300L features the MEGATRAK independent hydro-pneumatic suspension system and all-wheel steer for optimal travel both on and off the road. Its cab can comfortably accommodate a crew of three and improvements have been made to the visibility heating air conditioning aerodynamics and noise reduction.

In 2012 Kanson Cranes bought new cranes to help meet the needs of the booming Hong Kong market for rental cranes. There is a shortage of operators and rental rates are increasing by 10 percent every year. The Hong Kong market is small and therefore very competitive. Kan is looking forward to participating more substantially in this growing market with his company’s new GMK6300L.

Kanson Crane has specialized in the crane rental and heavy transportation industry for over 40 years. The company has 50 operators 60 percent of whom are trained by Kanson directly.
