Potain MCT 185 selected to boost luxury development in Istanbul

  • Local construction company Görgülü İnşaat purchased the crane to support the Tersane Istanbul project.
  • The development is being built on a former shipyard in Golden Horn Bay.
  • A Manitowoc team from Zhangjiagang, China provided comprehensive on-site training to the customer’s team.

A new Potain MCT 185 topless tower crane is helping construct the Tersane Istanbul development in Turkey. The crane was purchased directly by Görgülü İnşaat, the main contractor for the project, through AHS VINÇ, Potain’s local dealer. The crane will stay on-site for one year.

To ensure the crane delivered maximum impact as quickly as possible, a team of three engineers from Zhangjiagang, China, traveled to Turkey to supervise the commissioning of the crane. Zhang Yuanxiong, Manitowoc’s field service manager, led the team through the smooth set-up of the crane and provided hands-on training to the local team.

“We covered common operating issues and how to resolve them, as well as the importance of maximizing uptime through regular inspections, fault diagnosis, and preventive maintenance. Learning in real-time, on the job helped the crew to understand much faster and will give them the confidence to get the most out of their new purchase,” said Zhang.

The crane provides an 8 t maximum capacity and an impressive 65 m jib. Capacity at the jib end is 1.5 t. Each section of the crane benefits from minimized component dimensions and weight to simplify assembly. The MCT 185 is designed with urban and infrastructure projects in mind, and the crane shares the same hallmarks of all Potain’s China-built MCT models, which include easier transport and assembly, higher efficiency, better productivity, and strong reliability.

The new Tersane Istanbul development is located along Istanbul’s idyllic waterline and will transform the historic Ottoman shipyards into a modern and dynamic urban hub. Spanning 242,000 sq. m, the development features luxury waterfront residences, seamlessly combining historical charm with modern amenities. The waterfront residences will offer diverse food, retail, and entertainment options, all set against the backdrop of the picturesque Golden Horn.
