Manitowoc is definitely going in the right direction to foster teamwork. With continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma as company priorities, teamwork becomes essential for success. I see evidence that the various business units within the company are embracing the cross-functional teamwork approach to accomplish their goals and objectives. What makes you most proud about working for Manitowoc? I take pride in the fact that I´m part of the deployment to improve and grow our continuous improvement methodologies. Being on the deployment side allows me to use my experience and expertise to help mold Manitowoc´s continuous improvement program closer toward world-class methodologies that many of the most successful companies utilize. What attracted you to a career with Manitowoc? In a word, opportunity. Manitowoc offered me both a job and a career. When I was hired on, I had a logical career development path presented to me so I knew that I could have future growth and opportunity, something that my previous employer did not provide to me. What do you like most about your job at Manitowoc? I enjoy the challenge and career growth opportunities that present themselves to me continuously in my position. I am gaining valuable experience and knowledge that will no doubt prepare me for future career advancement with The Manitowoc Company. Which achievements are you most proud of? One of the key aspects of my position is not only to lead continuous improvement efforts, but also to teach those best practice methodologies to others within the business. One of the more rewarding experiences I have is hearing the stories of how those I´ve trained have used what they´ve learned to improve their business processes. Sharing knowledge and observing the benefit of that shared knowledge can be very rewarding. Were your family/friends supportive of your decision to join Manitowoc? My wife was a little uncertain initially because I had a long tenure at my previous employer. There´s always some element of risk with taking a new position at a new company. After 18 months here, my wife now feels much better about the move and I´m happy with my decision to join the team at Manitowoc. What information would you most like to share with a potential Manitowoc employee? Manitowoc gives you the opportunity, it´s up to you to whether you take advantage of the opportunity given. Strong leadership and quality work does not go unnoticed. What are some of the things that make Manitowoc a successful company? Success at Manitowoc is achieved through instilling the seven company strategic imperatives in everything we do. Those strategic imperatives are; growth, innovation, customer focus, aftermarket service and support, excellence in operations, people and organizational development, and value creation. In order to execute to each of these imperatives, you need the right people in the right positions. In my opinion, Manitowoc has excelled at seeking out those people through investing time and money into developing their strong internal talent, as well as seeking highly qualified external talent to join the already strong team. Where do you see yourself with the company in 5 years? I see myself in a position to manage a portion of the business through utilizing lean and six sigma as a business management philosophy in continuous pursuit of world class process performance. What career development opportunities have you been able to participate in at Manitowoc? I am currently a certified Black Belt. Manitowoc is in the process of training me to the Master Black Belt level and has created a personalized development path to help me reach that goal. |
